[Intervivew] “Check the price of used cars with your smart phone”

[ 데일리카 김송이 기자 ] “Customers do not need to be hesitated with the price of used cars, as now they can check the price with their smart phones”.

Heung-gon Kim who has had various experiences in Korea Used Car Dealers Association and other aspects of used car market for more than 30 years said above as a representative of Carmart.

Carmart is a company which computes market price of used-cars and produces database. It has recently released a smart phone application ‘Carmart’ that offers market price inquiry of used-car service in real time. The application can be downloaded for free, and anyone can use it without the barriers of time and space.

‘Carmart’ is the first service which offers the market price inquiry of used-car in real time in Korea. So far, there has been several companies trying to show the used car market prices, but there is less objectivity as they only offers the average price of used cars sold in accordance with the models.

In addition, the data is too general, and, as the selling company offers its subjective data, it is difficult to use the data as an objective material. Also, the prices classified by models are different among companies, which is a reason of losing its credibility.

Among the services that ‘Carmart’ offers, the service about checking prices of newly released automobiles provides information about newly released automobiles. Release date, price, and the options for the new models classified by trims can be checked accurately. Moreover, information about domestic vehicles made from 1990 to today can be checked as well.

In terms of the service about studying price, market prices for entire models can be examined, and customers can choose a specific model for check. Also, the market price change occurred in 6 months is offered based on the release dates.

It is also available to check a vehicle’s release date and discontinuation date. Specific data about price change and options occurred during the sales period are also able to be checked.

Kim said, “The application is useful not only for customers but also for used-car dealers. Especially, automobile insurance companies can utilize it as vital information.

Property insurance companies now can check the accurate automobile market price simply through the application when they need to pay for car accidents.

In terms of the computation of used car market price, users can check the vehicle’s values and be given a confirmation document of market price based on the data application offers. The document can be downloaded by smart-phones and printed immediately.

As used-car dealers and customers now can check accurate market prices through the application, it is expected that the false offerings will be reduced to some degree.

Kim said, “The application is made based on the database that has been stored since 1990. The data offered by ‘Carmart’ can be used as a standard of used-car market price. We will try to expand the database until it can stand comparison with the America’s Kelly Blue Book”.

Moreover, Carmart announced that it would offer price information about the used foreign cars in June.
